St George's choir on Summer break at Southwell Minster

St George's Choir is a member of the Royal School of Church Music

St George's is a mixed choir of around 20 voices.
New adult members are always welcomed at practices on Thursday evening or after Sunday Evensong.

Young Choristers
Being a Chorister with St George's choir is a rewarding experience which will enable your child to enjoy music more fully. If you would like your child to benefit from the musical education the Choir of St George's could offer, or are thinking about it and would like to talk with those involved in the Choir, please either email the Choir or telephone Shaun Turnbull, the Choirmaster, 0191 252 1817

Practice Times
Thursday 7.30pm and Sunday following evensong.

Sung Services
The choir sings at all main services, including:
Sunday 9.30am Eucharist
Sunday 6.30pm Evensong
Saints Days: weekdays 7.45pm (or occasionally Saturday 10am)
special services in the church calendar for Holy Week, and Nine Lessons and Carols

Special Events
St George's choir has a summer weekend away to sing the weekend services in a Cathedral. Recent visits have included:
Southwell Minster
St Mary's, Edinburgh
Blackburn Cathedral
The choir also takes part in other choral events; during 2003, these included a '3 choirs' event in Hexham Abbey, and the RSCM Diocesan choir Festival, hosted in Cullercoats.

In March 2004, the choir joined again with choirs from Hexham Abbey and Gosforth as the 'Tynedale Three Choirs' in a festival Evensong in York Minster.
In July 2004, the choir sang the weekend services at Chester Cathedral.

In April 2005 visited Beverley Minster for a festival day, singing Mass and a Festival Evensong.
In the weekend of St George's Day, we sang festival services for the Sunday Eucharist and Evensong as part of the Early Music Festival. The Evensong included a full performance of Purcell's 'Rejoice in the Lord Alway'. accompanied by strings and continuo.
23-24 July 2005, the choir visited St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh to sing the weekend services.

Concerts
The choir also gives concerts, and in 2004 and 2005 performed at concert dates with Brass Ho! in a programme of Christmas music for Brass and choir.
